Pickup trucks are big. They are designed to haul big thinks, pull bigger things, and be driven by yet bigger things. And they perform these designed tasks every day, perhaps in a municipality near you! Should you put away your MX-5s and MR2s less they be crushed under the tires of such brutes? Of course not, because such vehicles are operated every day without incident. Just as 15 seat vans and box trucks are operated without incident every day. With a little more situational awareness, driving such vehicles, even in a parking lot (gasp!) does not require a special permit. So save us the pearl-clutching every time you see something bigger than a midsize sedan.

I DD'd an '86 3/4 ton Suburban for many years, then more recently an '05 GMC Yukon XL 2500. Never had a problem with ... anything (except the gas bill). Yeah, you need to take a little more care in a Dually, because width in the back that you don't look at besides your mirrors, and you also need to give yourself enough room for Ford's awful turning radius (has that gotten any better on their newer models?) but otherwise it's just another car. I think the Suburbans I drove are actually the exact same size as my '73 LeSabre, which I also DD'd for about 10 years. Again, no big deal. These large barge cars with frames interchangeable with 1/2 ton pickups were commonplace and daily drivers for millions of people from the 50's through the 80's.
Maybe it's different for me because I've always been in and out of different sized trucks and cars, everything from my VW Rabbit (smallest car I've had) to '76 Fleetwood Brougham (longest car I've had) to the wrecker, ramp truck or 30' box trucks I would drive from time to time.
I have no problem with these big trucks, unless it's obvious the driver doesn't know what they are doing. Usually that's not the case - drivers of dually trucks are generally aware that they have a dually to serve a purpose and don't try to drive them like sports cars.

But why would you unless it is imperative to bringing home the bacon? Unfortunately pick-ups are more about macho than they are utility these days. Big shiny dicks on wheels.
